The National Workshop on ‘Learn Breaking Down the Security of a Website, Web Application or Company for Real! organized by ASSOCHAM and supported by Department of Electronics and IT, Ministry of Communications and IT, Government of India and E2-Labs on 9th July 2012 and was conducted by Mr Chris Russo, Mr Fernando Via (Argentina) and Dr. Zaki Qureshey (E2-Labs). Representing CERT-In at this Workshop was Director Mr. Anil Sagar who briefed the delegates from across the country on the role of Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In).
This Workshop on Cyber Security was attended by around 35 officers from leading agencies and organizations including Cabinet Secretariat, NTRO, NATGRID, Department of Telecom, Air Force, C-DAC, Income Tax Commissioners from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Jodhpur and Guwahati, CRPF, BSF, Cisco, Government College of Engineering Tamilnadu, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, AMTRON, Aircel, Srei Infrastructure, Ministry of Defense.
This Five days Workshop was conducted on laptops with live online case studies. The Workshop was Addressed from time to time by some of the important speakers like Shri Vishvjit Prithvijit Singh, former Member Rajya Sabha, Chairman, Computer Department, All India Congress Committee who shared his experience on the cyber attacks faced by the Congress party website some time back and on successfully countering those attacks.
On Wednesday, 11th July 2012, the International Trainers along with Dr. Zaki Qureshey and Ajay Sharma Sr. Director ASSOCHAM called upon the Honorable Minister of State for Communications and IT, Government of India, Shri. Sachin Pilot
Mr Sharma informed the Honorable Minister on how ASSOCHAM was making efforts in highlighting the rising challenges in Cyber Security. Mr Sharma informed the Honorable Minister that ASSOCHAM has been advocating the need and time for a National Centre on Cyber Security to be set up by the Government of India on a Public Private Partnership model in the new future.
Honorable Minister asked ASSOCHAM to give the suggestions in writing.
On the 2nd last day, 12th of July, all the delegates were given a Feedback Form for their comments which was submitted back to us duly signed. Most of the comments are encouraging and the officials have acknowledged E2-Labs role in creating awareness and the need for more robust cyber security training in the country (Copy of the feedback forms are enclosed for your kind reference.)
The Workshop on 13th July 2012, was addressed by two Senior Government Officials from NTRO and National Investigation Agency. Shri Muktesh Chander, Director Cyber Cell, NTRO shared his early days experience on Cyber Security challenges, for which he pursued higher studies on the subject and today he is handling Cyber Security at NTRO. Mr Chander emphasized the need for trained manpower on Cyber Security in the country.
Mr Alok Vijayant, Director, NTRO shared his experience and gave a talk on intricacies of cyber crimes and cyber security.
Mr Loknath Behera, IGP Operations, National Investigation Agency, shared his experience on the emerging role of computer and internet in cyber terrorism. Mr Behera invited public private partnership in jointly facing the threat of cyber terrorism and invited ASSOCHAM - E2-Labs and private sectors active participation on conducting meaningful cyber security programmes for developing and training of high skilled manpower.
On the concluding day of the Workshop participatory certificates were issued to all the delegates.
The Workshop was covered by some of the leading channels including NDTV, Zeenews.com to name a few (copies enclosed) ASSOCHAM has informed all the delegates it would continue to organize meaningful Workshops on Cyber Security related subjects on a regular basis.
The International Trainers from Argentina also called upon Mr Amrendra Khatua, Ambassador Designate for Argentina on the evening of 13th July.
